My thoughts on...the release of Internet Explorer 7
The Internet is abuzz with news of the release of IE7, the first update to Internet Explorer in the last five years. Being a Firefox user myself, I pretty much shrugged it off. I said to myself, "Look at those losers. All giddy over a web experience that is no stranger to users of Firefox, Opera, Flock, Safari, and just about any other web browser." I have used IE7 myself, and I have to tell you, it's not bad. It has the features of Firefox, like tabbed browsing, a search box, and an RSS reader. It also has a few more, like page magnification.

The original intent of this post was to crush the high hopes of Internet Explorer 7 users. But complacency aside, it might actually be a threat to Firefox. Since IE7 has the features of Firefox, doesn't have much of an advantage anymore. Microsoft seems to be growing out of its complacency nowadays, and this is obviously an attempt to curtail Firefox from further eating away at its market share, which now stands at 86%, from 93% in 2004.

And Microsoft seems to have learned a little something from the open source movement, with the release of five betas, and their slogan, "we heard you." Seems like Microsoft no longer sits in its ivory tower, but is now willing to get down in the trenches. It realises that while its was sleeping, its enemies were gaining ground, and now it intends to throw its weight around and crush all that oppose it.
But has my original intent changed? Hell no! The first IE7 vulnerability was discovered less than 24 hours after its release. It has trouble with Google websites, PC Magazine gave Firefox a higher rating than IE7, and Firefox 2 is on its heels. Ha! Take that IE! You may be shiny and new, but you're still as secure as a sieve!

Not to mention the ever growing list of pages that will not display properly with IE7 (yes, I've tried it; not impressed).

I have IE6 and never use it. I'm glad I'm not one to run for the new & improved stuff on the internet. Firefox been doing me good so I'll continue to use it. I really like Opera too.

i only use IE for sites that require it and for Windows Updates or anything related to Windows. i've been a Firefox user and fan even since it was still called Firebird. anyways, i've read somewhere that IE7 would be a compulsary download for all Windows users kinda like what they did for Windows XP SP2. aside from Firefox you have other options like Flock and Opera so why use IE? it sucks big time! :P

I have IE 6 but I've never been and IE user at all. I've been on the net for a long time. The first browser I started out with was Mozilla which later became Netscape - which up until the last two years or so I've always found to be vastly superior to IE.

Now I'm back and forth between Firefox and Netscape (which now crashes a lot, so Netscape is starting to be on my Suck list too).

Thanks for your visit and comment earlier Leon.

Nice post, already (in normal microsoft fashion) there is a huge security flaw. Websites can open new browsers in the contect of the current browser. So if you have any type of witt about you and the poor sucker that steps into your trap has auto logging in on there bank you could direct them to there bank and open up there banking. Don't let the fancy new page magnifications fool you.
